TRUE SOUTH
Race & Aerial Cinematographer | Sole Onboard Camera Operator
True South is an 80-minute feature documentary capturing the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, one of Australia’s most demanding sporting traditions. The film marks the race’s 80th anniversary and a deeply personal return to sea, 25 years after the 1998 disaster.
Rather than a conventional sailing film, True South is a human story of endurance and resilience, following a journey down the east coast of Australia where the weight of the past meets the challenge of the sea.
I served as the sole onboard camera operator and drone pilot, filming entirely from within the race in extreme offshore conditions. Working alone at sea, I captured high-intensity race action, intimate onboard moments, and dynamic aerial sequences that shape the film’s visceral, human perspective.
True South premiered at Sydney’s Westpac OpenAir Cinema in January 2026, before screening in cinemas across Australia. The film is now available to stream on Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video in Australia.
