True South is an 80 minute feature documentary capturing the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, one of Australia’s most demanding sporting traditions. The film marks the race’s 80th anniversary and a deeply personal return to sea, 25 years after the 1998 disaster.

More than a conventional sailing film, True South is a story of endurance, resilience and the people drawn to one of the world’s great ocean races, where the weight of the past meets the challenge of the sea.

I served as the sole onboard camera operator and drone pilot, embedded within the race and filming through extreme offshore conditions. Working independently at sea, I captured high intensity racing, intimate moments between the crew and aerial sequences that place the audience inside the experience of the Sydney to Hobart.

True South premiered at Sydney’s Westpac OpenAir Cinema in January 2026, followed by a national theatrical release across Australia. The film is now streaming in Australia on Netflix, Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video.
